A frosty start to the new year

We had snow here to ring in the new year— not too much, but it has lingered on the north side of hills and buildings where the sun can’t quite reach into the shadows from its southernly arc in the January sky. The sun manages to warm the earth enough to make the mud a perfect pudding. With so many dirt roads, people talk about their plans to travel ‘on the freeze’ — early in the morning and after sunset, when the muddy roads are more passable. All month has been a winter wonderland of frosted edges in the morning, red skies at night, and a stunning full Wolf Moon. Also this month— a new show at the Old School Gallery (even though the opening was canceled due to omicron cases and mud) and making a batch of soap one Sunday. As I am writing this, I am thinking of friends and family in the Northeast with the blizzard upon them— hoping all can stay cozy and warm and safe from the storm.
