Ah— December was a busy month for art and celebrating with family! A quick trip to Ohio for my nephew’s graduation from Miami University in Oxford was a wonderful event to gather and see family after over a year (at least) since visiting together. Snow and a full moon made for a magical landscape at solstice-time, and we enjoyed cozy and festive holidays at home in Ramah. As I gear up for the New Year, I am both reflecting on last year and looking forward to 2024. I was recently accepted to a show at the ART123 Gallery in Gallup— a six-week art challenge: six paintings with six themes, and a seventh/‘wild card’ painting to complete during the same time frame. Each week, a new theme is revealed and then the artists have one week to complete the painting. On the day that I picked up the six canvas panels and the instructions, I met some of the other artists who are participating in the challenge, and I am inspired by the excitement and energy for this winter project! I will update you in January, and the show opens in February. This update’s photos include a few from December and then reflections from 2023: January’s candle and soap-making, February’s focus on the puppies, matting and framing photographs in March, ordering notepads and postcards in April, weaving for a Gallup show in May, building the ‘coyote’ fence in June, watercolors while on the water in Alaska in July, a weaving for an August show at the Old School Gallery, a suite of small dream-bubble paintings in September, Star Jars and stickers in October, a painting of Boulder’s Flat Irons in November, and landscapes painted in December inspired by the bosque (in Zuni) and the black spruce (in Alaska), and a glimpse of the first painting for the six-week art challenge. Wishing you a wonderful start to the New Year!
