This morning, as I headed to school dressed as a dinosaur for Halloween, it was 11 degrees. By 10am, for the parade at the elementary school, the temperature was 35 degrees and the students were warm enough to promenade and dance around the playground basketball court. The start of the month was full dahlias and roses and a late-blooming poppy that started the blooming season five months ago. It was a busy month for Star Garden Gallery; first, the Fall Festival, which featured a “Slow Fashion Show” atop the lava flow and sculpture trail that adjoins the Star Garden Gallery land with the Old School Gallery’s property. “Slow Fashion” refers to repurposing thrift shop finds with a stylish flair. Then, at the end of the month, the El Morro Arts Crawl and an opening at the Old School Gallery. In the middle of the month, my mom and I took a road trip to Colorado to visit my nephew in Boulder. We took the back roads and state routes, enjoying the golden aspens and cottonwoods, some freshly fallen snow on peaks that top 14,ooo feet, and lots of small towns along the way. It was a wonderful fall break weekend— a short, but ‘worth-the-trip’ visit— and it refreshed me for the the second quarter of the school year. I had some of my recent dream imagery paintings printed as stickers, and I am working on the design for Star Garden Gallery’s 2024 calendar. When it’s ready for ordering, I will send an email. The theme is “Around New Mexico,” featuring some of my favorite locations in the Land of Enchantment.
