September brought a harvest of squash and tomatoes, backyard dahlias, and time for some tiny woven work. Tomato salads and sandwiches, squash soups and apples mark the shoulder season. I created two small woven pieces for the fall show at the Old School Gallery in El Morro, using cholla cactus branches for the loom and silk and velvet fabric scraps from my fairy godmother, Simone— an artist and weaver in Eugene, Oregon. I worked for Simone as a production weaver and studio assistant many moons ago in the mid-nineties. Last spring, a box-full of exquisite fabric scraps appeared in my mailbox— thank you, Simone! The two tiny tapestries represent the September landscape and night sky— with the Pleiades on the rise. Enjoy your autumn, wherever you may be!
