The Meadowlark and the Roadrunner, the Killdeer and the Turkey Vulture, the Raven and the Hummingbird, the Great Blue Heron and the Pinyon Jay, the Shrike and the Kestrel, the Red-winged Blackbird and the Coot, the Flicker and the Ferruginous Hawk, the Sparrow and the Finch! This is a partial list of the birds I saw in April while collaging scenes from my trips along Route 66 onto a birdhouse as a donation for an upcoming charity auction in Gallup. I’ve been pouring over maps and old photographs for a summer show at ART 123 in Gallup for the Centennial Celebration of Route 66— finding images to frame, print as postcards, collage on the covers of handmade sketchbooks, and creating some whimsical rearview mirrors with paper maché. The dahlia tubers are starting to sprout up, and my tiny, new, hybrid truck has already been helpful to transport soil and sand for planting, as well as some branches to start a coyote fence/windscreen to protect the greenhouse from the 50-60 mph gusts that whip through the Ramah valley. Other photos this month include the moonrise, the night sky, the ‘carport cat’, and the pups, of course!
